While certain world events have unfortunately stolen all the headlines in the past few days, the fantastic wedding between Prince William and his bride Kate Middleton will long live on in hearts and minds.

With around two billion viewers worldwide watching the royal wedding, Durban did not disappoint. Restaurants and hotels across the city hosted events and viewings across the day, but the eLan Group was proud to have hosted one such event with a difference.
The eLan Group hosted a charitable “Royal Luncheon” to raise funds for its Section-21 company, the eLan Foundation, and the KwaMama Day-Care which cares for neglected children in the Ilembe district.
Hats, pearls and lace were in abundance as attendees were encouraged to dress in their finery and each lady was spoilt from the moment they entered the “wedding” venue. There were giggles, tears and lots of “oohing” over the bridal couple as they exchanged vows at Westminster Abbey and stole not one, but two kisses on the balcony of Buckingham palace.
More than R 30 000 was raised as a result of this initiative. Manager of the eLan Foundation, Melanie Clarkson, said: “While the splendour and opulence of the wedding may have been the highlight for many others around the world, for us, the highlight was to look around the room and see how many people responded so generously to our call. Knowing that the funds raised will help the neglected children cared for at the Shakashead Community Centre is well-worth all the effort!”
