January 12, 2012: Sahara Stadium Kingsmead saw cricket action for the first time in 1923 and hosted the first home Test for the South African cricket team after the nation’s readmission into international cricket. Now, on January 22, 2012, the iconic venue hosts another first: The Sharks rugby outfit will swop the oval ball for a cricket ball to take on the Sunfoil Dolphins at their own game at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead.
Vice-Captain of the Sunfoil Dolphins, wicketkeeper batsman (and occasional spin bowler) Daryn Smit, was tasked with handing over the challenge on behalf of his captain, Imraan Khan, to Sharks skipper Keegan Daniel. T20 is the name of the game and could just favour the powerhouse Sharks, although the wily, skillful Dolphins may disagree.
The challenge was, of course, accepted and battle lines drawn. Both teams are now looking forward to coming together in front of their Durban fans, showing good sportsmanship and having a day of fun with their families.
The Pick n Pay Durban Challenge will bring together fans of both cricket and rugby as their respective teams fight for bragging rights in a 20/20 style contest.

Time: Gates open at 10am with the match starting at 12 noon.
Tickets will cost just R30 for adults and R15 for Under 16s. Ticket Sales are already under way.
