Umhlanga’s Shelley Buckle, Miss Deaf South Africa, travelled to Prague recently for the Miss Deaf World Pageant. Although she didn’t win the title, it was an extraordinary trip and she loved every minute of the experience. This year’s pageant was the largest one ever, and Shelley was one of fifty competitors. Shelley has always used her pageant experiences to help benefit others, running signing workshops, and doing outreach into the community. Her job at East Coast Radio, her close and loving family, her boyfriend and the confidence she has gained through the trip to Prague, will surely make the sky the limit for this delightful young lady who has achieved so much so young, and overcome adversity with her very beautiful smile and kind and giving nature.
