Wednesday, July 27. Big north coast news is that a ship has become the latest weather victim and is stranded near Ballito at Sheffield Beach. Media spokesman for the NSRI, Craig Lambinon, told The Ballito News Online they are aware of the ship and have been involved in the rescue and salvage operations. Members will also be on hand through the day to make sure precautionary measures are in place and there are no injuries.
Ridge staff members and readers’ eyewitness reports brought news of The Phoenix’s disastrous journey north from Durban, after it broke its moorings in the extreme weather, first thing on Tuesday morning (26th).
Reports came in online and from local newspapers of a dramatic seas rescue on Monday night, in which all 15 crew members on board the The Phoenix were rescued.

There is concern that there is still fuel aboard the stricken ship, which clearly poses a threat to the local environment.
