Christmas is always a great time for crafts – there are so many wonderful things to enjoy making and creating with your children. It’s always great fun to make and your family and friends will always love receiving them!
You will need:
• Salt dough (recipe below)
• Straw
• Ribbon/string
• Acrylic paints
• Marker pen
• Rolling pin
• Paint brushes
To make the salt dough:
• 1 cup salt
• 2 cups plain flour
• ¾ cup boiling water
Add salt and plain flour to bowl, gradually adding hot water. Mix together until a dough forms, making sure it is not too sticky. Knead the dough.
Roll out a large enough area to make two handprints. Be mindful of how thick the salt dough is – you want the plaque to be thick enough to make it sturdy but not too thick that you are waiting weeks for it to dry out. You may want to add some holes using a straw so you can thread some string through and hang it up. Place it in the oven at 120 degrees for around three hours.
Begin by adding the snow at the bottom and painting the hand prints white. Then add the blue sky and leave to dry. Add some detail to the snowmen using a fine paintbrush and a marker pen. Give the snowmen hats, scarves, faces and buttons and add some falling snow to complete the effect.
