Social networking sites are becoming wildly popular throughout all age groups, but anyone will know that the social media is invaded mostly by teens. From Twitter to Facebook or BBM to MXit, teenagers are the ones giving the big companies their money to keep going.
As a teenager myself, I am active in most of the social networking sites that are more well know in the world – I have accounts on Facebook, Twitter, MXit and MySpace. The reason why us teenagers love social networking so much is because we feel it is much easier than sending an SMS that might take forever to get a reply or picking up the phone and dialling our friend’s number but not getting any response.
Us teenagers are like one big flock of sheep – whatever on sheep does the rest follow, there isn’t any black sheep left that didn’t just go their own way. This is the reason that social networking sites get so popular just after they’re born into the world of the Internet.
Facebook – The more commonly used with teenagers because it is easy to use and we get to see what our friends and family are doing in their lives as well as sharing photos, videos and basically just staying in touch with our friends. Even some grandparents are making accounts because they want to know what’s going on in their children and grandchildren’s lives.
Twitter – The social media that’s mostly used by the Hollywood family so that they can interact with their fans and show them how brilliant their lives actually aren’t. Many of the fan followers ask the celebs to retweet them every second. Some of the celebrities are so addicted to Twitter that they can’t go an hour without putting a tweet up.
BBM vs MXit – From the beginning of its time MXit was seen as amazing because you didn’t really pay a lot for it, but now that BBM was brought about teens have directed their time on owning a BlackBerry just for the instant messaging. So it seems that MXit will be left in the dumps for the kids that just go their first phone and can only hold an older version of the now dying social networking site.
When you’re reading this I’m sure that you have your BlackBerry next to you and you have another tab open on Facebook updating your status or looking at the latest celeb’s tweets. For better or for worse, social media is a part of your life.
