The Società Dante Alighieri in Durban North offers Italian courses at all levels and trains students in getting PLIDA, the official certification of Italian as a foreign language. PLIDA are language diplomas issued by Società Dante Alighieri, certifying the holder’s proficiency in Italian as a foreign language, that give students the opportunity to be enrolled in universities or schools and to be employed by Italian companies.
Società Dante Alighieri offers Italian as a subject in many South African schools and is also reaching out to impoverished communities and offering Italian courses free of charge and scholarships to South African public schools.
A branch has also been opened to offer courses in other languages such as Spanish, Russian, English, isiZulu, Afrikaans, German, Portuguese and Chinese. Dante Alighieri teachers are qualified and native speakers and the society offers customised courses to meet your needs. Other activities such as Italian cooking, theatre and history of art classes, labs and student exchange programmes are also offered by the school.
