The annual Street Store in Durban is happening on Saturday 16 June 2018. All involved are looking forward to another remarkable day of dignified shopping for the materially poor in our city. Grace Family Church, in partnership with the Denis Hurley Centre, will be hosting the Pop Up Street Store from 8.30am to 12.00pm at 2 Cathedral Road in the Durban CBD (Denis Hurley Centre).
Grace Family Church is calling for donations of like-new clothing, shoes, and accessories for all ages, as well as non-battery operated toys for kids. Your collections can be dropped off at the Grace uMhlanga, Riverside or Ballito church campuses. There will be a huge shipping container, sponsored by Container World, based at Grace uMhlanga and the target is to fill it to the brim with the above mentioned donations. Key sponsor JAM Clothing will also have drop-off boxes at their store in The Crescent, uMhlanga and at their Springfield Park store. There will also be an opportunity to assist in sorting the donated items at Grace Family Church (uMhlanga) on Saturday 9 June, between 9am and12pm.
On the day of the Street Store, clothing is hung up and donated items are displayed for shoppers to browse and select what they need and like. Adults and children off Durban’s streets are provided an opportunity to fulfill a basic need, while enjoying a dignified shopping experience.
The focus of the Street store is dignity. People choose their clothing, enjoy a meal, have their hair cut, and are blessed by volunteers whose sole aim is to ensure each person knows they are significant and welcome”, says Dave Richter of Grace Family Church.
