This morning the staff at the Kloof and Highway SPCA surprised Elaine Cairns, one of our exceptional volunteers, when she was presented with her new vehicle – a Nissan NP200. The vehicle was generously donated by a kind donor who wishes to remain anonymous.
Sadly, just before Christmas Elaine’s vehicle was stolen. This would ordinarily have crippled her work as she does not have the funds to replace her car. The SPCA were in a position to loan her one of their Inspectorate vehicles as one of their Inspectors was away on leave, however the Inspector was due back and it was feared that Elaine would once again be without a vehicle and therefore unable to continue her voluntary work in animal welfare.
In January this year the Kloof and Highway SPCA appealed to our community on behalf of Elaine Cairns, for anyone who was able to assist in acquiring a vehicle for her so that the dedicated eighty year old volunteer and her assistant, Doctor Mthombeni, could continue their critical work in animal welfare.
Elaine voluntarily works in the Molweni area assisting the Kloof and Highway SPCA, where she is well known by the locals and countless animals rely heavily on her help. Every day she travels out to Molweni, to collect animals that are unwanted by their owners, animals requiring sterilisation and various other treatments, and brings them to the Kloof and Highway SPCA. Doctor Mthombeni works closely with Elaine acting as a translator, ensuring her safety, assisting her with her volunteer work, and being a future SPCA inspector in training; the duo are a regular sight in the Molweni community. The duo reach out to the most vulnerable animals in the Molweni area and assist in providing primary animal health care, thus promoting the health and welfare of the animals and therefore the people too.
Elaine, Doctor and all staff at the Kloof and Highway SPCA, were overwhelmed with elation and emotion this morning. It was so humbling to see the gratitude and appreciation on Elaine’s face when the vehicle was unveiled. The Committee, staff, volunteers and animals we take care of would like to say a very special and heartfelt thank-you to the generous donor for donating the funds to purchase this new vehicle for Elaine to use, without your generosity this dream would not have been possible THANK YOU!
