In the world of SA music and elsewhere, news has been filtering through of Durban-based muso legend Syd Kitchen, who is currently fighting the good fight – against cancer.
Kitchen’s family have asked that this message be put out to “all friends, family and well-wishers” who have sent so many messages and e-mails.

Says Kitchen: “Thank you so much, it has been literally overwhelming to have received this level of support.”
Syd has been diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer which has spread to his liver and the Lymph glands as well.
Late stage
“The late stage at which the diagnosis has taken place, leaves little room for treatment except to manage his pain and discomfort as well as we can. A possible treatment option in the States is presently being explored so we will continue to update as this develops,” says Peter Kitchen, Syd’s brother who has flown in from the UK.
“Due to the severe exhaustion that is accompanying his condition, we ask that you respect his wish at this stage – which is to limit communication to e-mail wherever possible.”

Thanks for posting this – all support for my brother is to be welcomed – but I would ask that my wife June’s name be added after mine. She is as much a family member as any of us having known, loved and supported Syd during all of our 35 years together
