Almost 300 swimmers call Aquazone Swim Club their “happy place” and now they have a fabulous new home at Curro Hillcrest, with a 50x25m pool and 10x4m “learn to swim” pool.
Angela Marlton started the club in 2003 and revels in the progress she has seen her swimmers make in that time. “This year, we have our biggest team yet going to SA Level 3 Nationals, with 12 qualifiers, and five heading to the SA Senior and Youth Nationals, which double as Olympic trials,” Angela explains.
Names you may recognise include Matthew Coetzee, currently on scholarship at Yale University in the USA, Lauren Forsyth and Chad Mayer, who have all made an impact at national level.
Jo Gibson-Taylor joined Angela in 2007 to start the stroke correction and learn to swim side of the club. The pair are assisted by passionate and professional coaches, who know how to get the best from their charges, including the Curro Hillcrest swimming squad. Aquazone takes swimmers from six months of age, with a large group of adult swimmers who train for health and fitness. “Locals can also look forward to us offering under water hockey, water polo and Aquasize in the future,” Angela concludes.
