There are moments living here which take your breath away and make sure you know you’ve chosen exactly the right place to raise your child, and live your life. Standing on the lawn in the sunshine watching the kids from Isiibonelo High School Zulu dancing, their choir singing alongside the kids from Clifton High, gave me goose bumps. What a privilege to chat to Given, the amazing 13-year-old dancer whose enthusiasm for life was humbling, or watch the boys of Clifton`s amazement as the visiting Zulu boys sang and danced with unbridled energy.
Africa is at its best in this sort of situation, joined by the energy of the moment. From the beautiful and rousing rendition of Every Little Thing is Going to be Alright, to One Breath, sung by the Clifton and Isibonelo choirs, every moment was filled with joy and pathos. John Ellis, who used to sing with Tree63, moved the crowd with his love of South Africa, and beautiful voice. Jane Linley Thomas did the introductions, and the boys were happy as bunnies.
