What a launch they threw for the Good Food and Wine Show last night at the Elangeni. All around the pool deck food stations were set up representing the countries the Chefs originated from. Oysters, crayfish, prawns and Champagne greeted you as you entered…biltong and droewors, along with locally produced jams and preserves flew the South African flag…there was a selection of antipasto, and a make your own pizza station with a wood burning oven representing Italy and Antonio Carluccio….a tandoor and curries for Reza Mahammed….. Greek spits with lamb, smashing plates, vine leaves and all, for George Colombaris…amazing. Tsogo Sun’s Julia Unger put on an evening to remember, and Christine Cashmore, the founder and director of The Good Food and Wine Show reminded us all of the huge amount of help this event gives to aspiring township cooks, to the Bobbi Bear Foundation, and to employment in the area. There is so much to do at this year’s Show, take your children to cook with the Chefs, meet your foodie heroes. If the enthusiasm of the Chefs and the quality of the food, wine, cocktails and in particular the chocolate bombs from Lindt are anything to go by, I suggest you go down to the Exhibition Centre and have a wonderful time.
