A project that started as the development of a new Virgin Active gym has evolved into a ground-breaking scheme – Platinum Walk @ Virgin Active.
Ducatus Properties, well experienced in Virgin Active developments, has teamed up with The Morgan Creek Properties/G5 Specialised Finance Development Consortium, who acquired 34 Old Main Road Hillcrest some years ago. More recently, the group acquired the land behind it in order to meet the council’s stringent parking requirements and Morgan Creek Properties saw the potential for high-spec garden apartments within walking distance of the gym and all the amenities of Hillcrest.
Platinum Walk @ Virgin Active is ideally suited to those people who want to live an active urban lifestyle. “Being able to walk to the gym, shops and nightspots in a few minutes is unique in KZN,” says developer Mark Johnson. “We like to do things differently, creating something new and fresh. Platinum Walk @ Virgin Active is the first time a gym has been combined with garden apartments, and it will be tremendously popular with both residents and investors, and will certainly be sought after in the residential letting market.”

Designed by Elphick Proome Architects, this state-of-the-art Virgin Active gym will cover 3 600m2, including a 25m heated swimming pool. Apartment owners will benefit from preferential rates at the gym.
Not only will this be more convenient for health-conscious Hillcrest residents, it will also reduce the traffic between Hillcrest and Kloof, as gym-goers will no longer have to travel to Kloof to work out.
Platinum Walk is located behind the gym, separated by an access-controlled gate for security and privacy. The apartments have been designed to fit in with the Hillcrest village vibe, making use of natural light and the finest finishes to create a smart modern space. All 25 apartments come with a lock-up garage, and vary in size from 101m2 for a one-bed loft apartment with study to 135m2 for a two-bed garden unit.
Communal living areas include an entertainment zone and pool, with landscaping and feature ponds used to create relaxing outdoor areas.

The necessary applications have been submitted to council and earthworks should have begun in 2012. As yet, we do not have a confirmed date for the development’s completion.
Morgan Creek Properties has been at the leading edge of property development for over 20 years, having built the first sectional title hotel in the country, 15 years ago. The company pioneered Kirtlington Park, which is rated in the top five lifestyle developments by South African banks. Together with partners G5 Specialised Finance, headed by Garth Denny, the team developed Umlazi Mega City, the first large-scale shopping centre built in a township. This is currently the best performing property in the SA Corporate Real Estate Fund (part of Old Mutual Property).

Hi. Any idea when this will all come to fruition? Specifically, when will the gym be ready? 🙂
