Last night at Suncoast I was lucky enough to attend the first in a series of dinners pairing South African wines with foods and I would suggest you look out for the next one, as it was an evening to remember. I was lucky enough to be sitting next to Benny Masekwameng, from South African Masterchef, so we talked food all evening and ate far too much.
The highlight of the meal was the Seafood Treasure, which was a combination of salmon, oysters, scallops and prawns with lemon grass and ginger steamed in its own jus. It was delicious and paired with a Nederburg Winemaster Reserve Riesling, which complemented it perfectly.
Five delicious courses led us from Pongracz through Chardonnay and Merlot to finish with three types of Baklava with a delicious Nederburg Noble Late Harvest dessert wine. If you are looking for a little guidance on what wines to pair with which foods, or know already and would like someone else to do the cooking, look out for the next dinner in the series, you won’t be disappointed.
