Each year the UIP coordinates the drafting of a Matric Week Operational Plan which includes input from the municipality, event organisers and Red Frogs.
The aim of this plan is to ensure a safe and fun Matric Week that does not negatively impact on Umhlanga, its user groups, property owners, businesses or other stakeholders.
The UIP drives the implementation of the plan which this year runs from 23rd November to 8th December 2012.
The dayshift security contingent for public areas is made up of 14 security officers that include UIP, municipal funded and event organisers funded security staff, who are all integrated and managed by the UIP. The nightshift contingent increases to 25 security officers.
The UIP has clearly stated that future UIP operational support for the event organisers is dependent on the management of event participants in public areas – anti-social behaviour, vandalism etc. in public areas will not be tolerated – firm and decisive action will be taken by the SAPS and the UIP, and arrests will be made.
Of additional benefit to those coming to Umhlanga for the Matric Week, is the UIP mobi-site for smartphones and tablets www.umhlangauip.co.za/m/, which takes into account the importance of having relevant information available for people who are not sitting behind their computers.
The UIP mobi-site places the UIP in your hand and displays all contact and emergency numbers; an interactive section to report a fault in public space and email the UIP; the latest news, and a fully searchable directory of all services and businesses in the UIP, from banks to restaurants – which will be of great use not only to the Matrics but to any tourist coming to the UIP during the Festive season.
