October 27, 2011. With the world population figure set to top 7 billion next week, the question on many people’s lips is, “For how long can the planet sustain the demands of 7 billion plus people?”.
As a global realisation seems to be setting in (finally) that the planet is under siege, many developed countries are already seeing declining figures and an ageing population (people live longer, young people have fewer children). China, for example, long ago officially moved to limit the number of children couples may have.

Europe deal to seal debt crisis
Yes, Europe is in the grip of another nasty debt crisis. Now, policymakers have united to develop a comprehensive plan to limit damage currently centred around the ailing Greek economy. Well, ailing’s too soft a word . . . it’s more like it needs life support than anything else.
Europe sealed a last-ditch deal to fix the festering crisis, shoring up its bailout fund, pledging new funds for Greece and pushing banks to share the pain at a summit vital to the health of the global economy.
After days of talks and two successive summits that dragged on for almost 10 hours, EU president Herman Van Rompuy emerged in the wee hours saying: “We took important decisions.”
Does this affect you? Yes! The decimation of the economy of one of our key trading partners (Europe) would be a massive blow for the rather fragile SA economy.
ANC Youth League members march
From News24: Scores of ANC Youth League supporters from various provinces started gathering at Beyers Naude Square in central Johannesburg on Thursday morning, ahead of an “economic freedom youth mass action” march.
Youth league members were expected to march from Beyers Naude Square to the Chamber of Mines in Johannesburg, the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in Sandton – and then to Pretoria where a night vigil is to be held prior to a march on the Union Buildings on Friday.
The Youth League has repeatedly stated that this is “Not a Julius Malema march”.

“Sausage and mash-cash”
Here’s a little beauty of a story from Orange News.
A cash machine in East London (in England, of course), is offering customers the choice of using the service in either standard English or Cockney.
The ATM, in Leytonstone, asks if you want Sausage and Mash (cash), a balance on Charlie Sheen (screen balance) or a Huckleberry Finn change (pin change).
You can also choose to have a Lady Godiva (£5), Speckled Hen (£10), Commodore (£15), Horn of plenty (£20), Pony (£25), Dirty (£30), Double Top (£40) or a Nifty (£50).
“It’s tough enough withdrawing cash when you’ve not got much but if you can do it with a giggle it makes all the difference,” said one highly amused customer. – Orange News
