The transformative nature of the room space will be artfully showcased in this year’s Bedroom Project, featuring at the 25th Decorex Joburg, sponsored by Plascon, taking place at Gallagher Convention Centre from 8 to 12 August.
The three bedroom settings; crafted by Anita’s Interiors, Décor Identity and Vox Furniture; will all be unique in style and design with the #rhythmoflife theme forming a unifying connection that brings the spaces together.
“It’s always exciting discovering what the latest trends in style, colour and design are but to actually see them reflected in an interactive setting is truly sensational,” said Creative Director of Decorex, Anita Bloom. “We want to give visitors to this year’s milestone exhibition the chance to actually walk through these stylish bedroom designs and draw inspiration from the exhilarating #rhythmoflifetrends.”
Vox Furniture
A luxurious space for relaxation will drive the creative design from Vox Furniture as they breathe life in to an apartment-style bedroom.
“The bedroom is now a space where the bulk of our relaxation time is spent,” explained Yulande Roxburgh of Vox Furniture. “When not sleeping, we spend our time watching TV, reading, listening to podcasts, music or scrolling through phones. It is undeniably important to ensure that bedrooms are inspiring, luxurious and relaxing.”
Looking to 2018 trends, Roxburgh said deep, rich colours such as purple, emerald and midnight blue were prominent, with natural, lush greens used to encourage wellness. Soft pinks were also coming through, with a touch of warm coppers and golds.
“This look creates a mood of tranquillity and deep restoration,” she said, adding that the layering of textures was also trending. “Luxurious, opulent blankets and throws, velvets and furs – then throw in mood lighting – to really make the bedroom. We will bring this tactile element into the room using 100% cotton, machine-washable Lorena Canals’ Botanical Plants and Monstera rug ranges.”
Vox Furniture will draw on the essence of spring for this installation, focusing on lush, tropical greenery, blood orange, copper, gold and starlight express. This will exude their signature, clean-lined Scandinavian-styled furniture matched with contemporary, chic décor in striking setups.
Décor Identity Studio
While sharing the apartment room setting, Décor Identity Studio will style a completely different bedroom space introducing clean lines and minimalist designs for modern apartment living. Visitors will be transported to a calm room, simple yet elegantly modern, which touches of African-inspired décor and accessories.
Collaborating with Romo Fabrics on wallpaper, fabrics and rugs, Décor Identity Studio will create a truly unique bedroom space where colours are used to connect the room.
“We will be introducing blue with natural tones of oak and gold and to contrast, while also bringing in touches of black and white,” explained Elisha Annandale of Décor Identity Studio. “I don’t believe there is any one particular trend in bedrooms, rather if you want to be on-trend, play with the colours you introduce and bring in some patterns on scatters or through the wallpaper.”
She said that, while Décor Identity Studio doesn’t consider itself to have a signature style, her personal taste leans towards the eclectic: “I like different design elements and styles mixed together, with the colours tying the look together more than the actual furniture pieces.”
Anita’s Interiors
From the exhibition space visitors will be transported directly into a high-end hotel room – a classic bedroom with an element of the contemporary feel. Designed by Anita’s Interiors, the hotel room will create an inviting installation which exudes comfort and style through bespoke furniture pieces.
“My signature style is always according to my clients’ specific requirements, and for this particular project, I’ve decided to lean towards the classic hotel room style with touches of contemporary design,” explained Ingrid Meyer of Anita’s Interiors.
Reflecting this style will be the chosen Perspex half-poster bed, complete with opulent fabrics that incorporate natural colours contrasted with bolder tones and hues, with the design also harkening towards the natural element of wood.
