Top Gear Presenters are ‘warming up’ for ‘sporting’ challenges in Durban!
Anticipation is building as more details of the Top Gear Festival, set to take place in Durban on the 16th and 17th June this year are released. Due to be the biggest live event Top Gear have ever staged, the Moses Mabhida Stadium, People’s Park and Street Circuit ‘stages’ are set for a show that is sure to enthral and inspire. In front of their largest audience to date, in one of the World’s most modern stadiums, and influenced by the Olympic fever currently sweeping their homeland, Jeremy, Richard and James will host an arena show of gargantuan proportions – all with a sports-themed twist.
Fans of the Festival will be glad to hear that the much-loved live stadium show will feature a combination of the anarchic stunts and challenges synonymous with Top Gear’s TV programme. At this year’s event, the presenters will be chariot racing …but probably not quite like that of the ancient Games – one thing you can be sure of is that it will be equally challenging, competitive and require a whole lot of horsepower! Just to see if it can actually be done, the popular winter sport of curling is being recreated in sunny Durban (ironically billed as ‘the warmest place to be’), and will, somehow, be played using cars. Sticking with the sporting theme, visitors will be able to see hurdling like never before as a man attempts to jump a moving car as well as some more ambitious sports never before seen on the continent. There will also be incredible displays of driving brilliance by the Top Gear Stunt Driving team who would surely take gold every time for their precision and skill.
Out on the track, Top Gear’s first-ever Street Circuit plays host to tons of motoring festivities including a 90-minute track show hosted by former British racing driver, Tiff Needell and local Absolute F1 Presenter Sasha Martinengo. There will be Supercar grudge matches, presenter supercar races and a two-wheel world record attempt in a minibus taxi! The history of Formula 1 will be showcased in parades on track and you can also enjoy the sight of several South African celebrities pitted against each other in Drag Races.
And if that’s not enough for you there’s even more motortainment as the MSA stage their Westbank series out on the Top Gear track. Petrol heads who still need more can head to the motoring exhibition packed with some of the world’s greatest supercars, classics and motoring memorabilia.
This year’s Top Gear Festival powered by Shell V-Power in ‘the warmest place to be’ is expected to attract tens of thousands of petrol-heads keen to see the world famous presenters, guest drivers, legends and celebrities in action and take part in this true celebration of all things motoring.
