The proposal for the development of the KZN Halaal Food Manufacturing Hub was initiated by Trade and Investment KZN (TIKZN) in 2015 in response to the growing demand for Halaal products globally.
The demand for ethically and humanely produced, prepared and distributed food is increasing faster than the demand for conventionally produced foods. Ethical food products not only meet religious or cultural requirements, but are also growing in popularity with health and environmentally conscious people.This study was undertaken at a pre-feasibility study level to provide information to assist TIKZN with a decision to proceed with a Detailed Feasibility Study (DFS).
