Family, music and super cars

By The Crest Magazine15/08/20113 Mins Read

This year’s Truck, Car, Bike and Outdoor Expo promises to be the biggest yet. The annual event, held at the Shongweni Polo Club from 18 to 21 August, will have a host of new events that are bound to entertain petrol heads and music lovers alike.

According to event organiser Clyde Lawrence, the Expo has expanded this year to include two new events – this as a result of the growing demand following the success of last year’s gathering.

“We have introduced two new segments to the event this year, one being Caravan, Camping, Boating and Outdoor, the second A Super Car Marquee,” said Clyde. “To date, we have had very positive support from Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, Ferrari, Jaguar, Audi and Chevy. I believe both new segments of the Expo will be a major draw card.”

As part of this year’s line-up, the Expo will host local idols winner Jason Hartman. Speaking on the musical line-up, Clyde highlighted that this part of the Expo is made to enhance the festive environment for the thousands of people who will be making their way to the event. “We play live music off a stage at the centre of the Expo for 4 hours,” said Clyde. “It’s very much the same as at the Mr Price Stadium after rugby.”

Other musicians that will be performing at the Expo are Derrick Holmes, Sez Adamson, Sean Dewhurst, Glen Terrell, Mark Whittaker, Mike de Jager, Stuart Senar and Arnott Payne.

This year’s event will, however, not only be about fast cars and loud music. The Expo will also host a parallel event, where captains of the trucking industry will look at how they can raise safety standards in the sector. The Truckers and Road Safety Convention looks to serve as a catalyst to get business leaders in the transport industry to talk more about how they can maximise opportunities that are available to them.

Clyde highlighted that it is important for people at various levels of the industry to find common ground about issues within the sector. “There are 1 000 trucking personnel taking part, from owners to CEOs in the transport industry. The concept behind this event is to bring the road authority and trucking industry closer together and to get them thinking alike.”

The Truck, Car, Bike and Outdoor Expo takes place at the Shongweni Polo Club, 18 to 21 August, 10am till 10pm. Entrance is R20. For more information, contact Clyde on 082 897 2511.

    whats the entrance fee
    directions from n3 toll road

    • Hayley Dennyson on 17/08/2011 12:15

Hi Denzil, entrance is R20 and the Shongweni Club is on the corner of Cliffdale and Kassier Roads in Assagay. If you’re coming from Durban on the N3, you’ll need to take the Shongweni/Hillcrest turnoff, turn right across the bridge and the club is on your left-hand side.
