November 18, 2011. Varsity College Old Boys Rugby Club, situated at Riverside Sports, are the proud new owners of the Bull Dog scrumming machine, the most advanced scrumming machine on the market. This is thanks to sponsorship by one of the club’s loyal sponsors, Envirosan.
Dickey Schmeltzer and Brian Lewis of Envirosan Sanitation Solutions were at Riverside Sports when the scrumming machine was delivered and spoke of the benefits the modern equipment will make to the Rugby Club in their quest to become the No 1 club in KZN.
Carole Adam, Varsity College Sports Manager, says, “With Varsity College now merged with Old Boys, the club is officially called Varsity College Old Boys and we are excited about the 2012 season. The club has secured the expertise of top class coaches, bought the most advance equipment and therefore provides a great platform for young talented players to take their rugby careers to the next level.”
Varsity College Old Boys have two quality coaches in Carel Nel, who heads up the Premier Team for 2012, and Ian Adendorff, who has become the Director of Rugby and is heading up the club’s U20 age group in 2012. Ian will also coach the Varsity College Old Boys team to compete in the USSA competition in June 2012, with his eye on qualifying for the Varsity Shield promotion relegation slot opening up in 2013.
Graham Thompson, the Chairman of Varsity College Old Boys, is excited about the new roles the coaches will play in strengthening all levels at the club, and says it’s vital to give the coaches the correct equipment to do their jobs.
***Varsity College Old Boys 2012 season kicks off with their first training session on Monday, January 16. That’s 2012, of course.
