In 12 short years, principal Jeanette van der Merwe and her dedicated team of teachers have seen miracles happen at Waterfall College. From humble beginnings at Waterfall Christ Church, the school moved to the iThemba Campus in 2010, growing to 120 students with a 100% IEB pass rate.
84% of the matric class of 2015 achieved a Bachelor degree pass. “We have created a core competence in the personal approach to high-quality schooling and we aim for 100% Bachelor degree pass,” says Mrs Van, as she is affectionately known.
The school’s sports facilities continue to grow and new Head of Sport, Greg Kyle, has plans to broaden the range on offer.
Beyond the standard IEB curriculum, Waterfall College teaches life skills in all situations. “We strive to give our children the strength to endure tough times and make a positive contribution to our country, teaching values like tolerance, commitment, integrity, trust and compassion.”
The school is part of an exciting vision. “Waterfall Schools” is a pre-primary to matric journey of excellence, all on the iThemba Campus. “We aim to be the best school in the area for quality, personalised, mainstream IEB education, drawing on successful elements of Waterfall College and other institutions to create an invigorating environment where children can thrive.”
Speaking to past and present students at Waterfall College, it’s impossible to ignore their pride and enthusiasm for the school. “It’s thrilling being part of an evolving entity, where you can have a direct impact on its development,” says Michaela Christophers, 2015 Head Girl. “The teachers truly care about their students and go out of their way to support you. I can’t imagine a more personal experience at any school!”
To experience it for yourself, visit the Waterfall College Open Evening on Thursday, March 10 at 5.30pm.
