In January 2017, the much-anticipated Waterfall Preparatory School welcomed students from Grade R to Grade 3 as the pioneering foundation phase private school embarked on its exciting journey.
The beautiful 40-acre campus is eco-friendly and surrounded by breathtaking views of the Valley of a Thousand Hills. The school offers a holistic, modern learning experience balanced by a core foundation of Christian values. Students will grow through quality education, sports and outdoor activities.
The brand-new school building boasts eight large classrooms, with a maximum of 24 students per class. The small class sizes will allow for one-on-one, personalised interaction with teachers with room to learn through play, a necessity for foundation phase education. The teaching team was carefully selected by the Advisory Head of the Foundation Phase, Sharron Lane. “Finding top quality teachers well versed in Foundation Phase philosophy, knowledge, skills and values was a priority for me,” Mrs Lane explains. “I have no doubt that the Waterfall Preparatory teaching team for 2017 is out of the top drawer and that the children, who will be fortunate to be taught by them, will reach new heights in confidence and academic ability.”
Each classroom is fitted with state-of-the-art E-Beams, which have Smart Board technology that allows simple whiteboards to evolve into interactive teaching media. Subjects include two second languages, isiZulu and Afrikaans, as well as weekly music lessons for students to develop their cultural side. The Christian ethos of the Prep school is a vital pillar and students will attend weekly Chapel Services at the Campus Chapel.
Waterfall Preparatory has collaborated with Garvz Sports Academy to teach Physical Education Lessons during school hours and compulsory extramural sport one afternoon a week. Sport will include: rugby, cricket, soccer, hockey and netball. A cycle track is also being developed to cater for extramural bike lessons. The dam on the school grounds will encourage students to develop an appreciation for nature. They will also be able to explore the wonderful indigenous gardens on the large campus.
Waterfall Preparatory School is set to fill the gap between the already flourishing Waterfall Pre-Primary (six months to Grade 00) and Waterfall College (Grade 8 to Grade 12). The Preparatory School has received great interest from the Pre-Primary School parents. The rapid growth in pupil numbers at the Pre-Primary throughout 2016 bears testimony to the dedication of the wonderful and caring teachers and staff.
The Preparatory will maintain a similar caring approach and parents, such as Amanda Drummond, who have children attending Waterfall Pre-Primary School, are thrilled that their children will have the same experience at the Preparatory School. “Deciding to move your child to a new school is never an easy one,” Amanda says. “My husband and I have not looked back since moving our son to Waterfall Preparatory School. It has been a pleasingly smooth transition. All aspects, from the application process to the friendly staff and teachers to getting the uniform, have been a pleasure. Matthew is super excited to be at his new school.”
In 2018, the senior phase of Waterfall Preparatory will welcome Grade 4 students to the school. Each year, a new grade will be added and the school will eventually cater for Grade 7 students in 2021. The campus will then become a fully-fledged educational hub for students to attend from the age of six months up to their matric year.
In 2016, Waterfall College once again achieved an impressive 100% matric pass rate, bearing testament to the motto: “Through hard work, excellence is achieved.” This educational hub is set to provide quality education, preparing students to eventually write their IEB Matric Exams with confidence.
To experience all Waterfall Pre-Primary and Preparatory has to offer, join them at their Open Day on March 15, 2017 at 9am and 5.30pm.
