Once a year, Wendon Academy displays their children’s magnificent art, practical crafts and woodwork – in the form of a picnic under the stars evening, where parents take a picnic basket and wonder through the beautiful displays. This year’s expo is on Friday 10 November at 6pm. Family and friends are welcome to join in and enjoy the live music by John Didlick, a Grade 11 teacher at the school. The evening is a fundraiser to help keep up the standard of the school, allowing each child to show their many gifts which would otherwise be overlooked.
The evening is a magical event, with twinkling lights to create just the right ambiance of love, joy and family spirit.
Wendon Academy was conceptualised in June 2002, as an independent school for children who experience barriers for learning. In particular, they embrace a holistic approach for these children.
As placements are difficult for special needs children in government mainstream schooling systems, these children then remain disadvantaged by being cognitively handicapped. The school receives no government funding, and they are blessed to have parents who support the work they do.
Their teachers are committed to the development and education of each individual child helping them to overcome many difficulties. They have a passion to develop each child to become productive, independent and integrated members of our society. Their aim is for each child to find a sense of purpose and add to the overall social environment by bringing their unique contribution to society.
