October 10, 2011. Reports are in that a dead whale beached at Umhlanga in front of the Pearls development around noon today.
Famous Publishing MD Tim Lombard was on the scene and captured pictures of the whale and crowd at the scene. KZN Sharks board officials were on hand to assess the situation.

It’s thought that the 2m long humpback whale calf got caught in the shark nets. The KZN Sharks Board is expected to tow the mammal back out to sea this afternoon.

Poor thing! It’s bizarre to see such a beautiful creature washed up like that. Let’s hope there are lots more humpback whales enjoying a better trip along our shore.

If you’re asking, I’d say no. But i could be wrong; the reports we had were that the whale had got caught in the shark nets and was dead.
