The fabulous Whole Food Market, until recently based at Colombo Tea and Coffee, is moving to the elegant, spacious Quays in Brown Rd, on the edge of the canal in the Point Development area with their first market in the new location taking place on Thursday, April 7 from 5pm until 10pm.
The Whole Food Market has enjoyed a series of evening markets at Colombo and morning markets in Bulwer Park and is now adding a third venue to their repertoire – the huge function room, outdoor picnic area and mezzanine sun-downer deck at The Quays which is part of the new Point Road development project.

This new initiative continues the vision of Glenwood Community Forum member and market convenor Darryl Hofmann to offer a series of inspired gourmet-events in interesting places.
A view and a breeze
With summer becoming autumn, Hoffman wanted a venue from which to enjoy the beautiful change in season – somewhere with a view and a breeze. The Quays is situated on the island surrounded by the canal which boasts gondola rides and pedal boats.
Hofmann has carefully selected stal holders who will create a deli-vibe – allowing visitors to purchase produce from the stalls, and assemble a meal, indoor picnic style. Included in the mix is organic meats; honey on tap; organic pizzas; artisan breads; fresh olives; marinated feta cheese; fresh herbs; and fresh fruit and veg.
Again, there will be plenty to taste, as well as boutique wines, cocktails, salon beers and beer from micro-breweries. There will be sundowner specials from 5pm until 6pm.
To add ambiance to the evening will be “U C” – a funky jazz band under the baton of trombonist / drummer Xolani Hlongwa featuring Cooks Gasela on sax. Hlongwa teaches music at Umlazi Com Tech, and the band will feature some of his most promising students.
There is ample parking – alongside the Quays, at the Durban Underwater Club and nearby uShaka, and there will be additional security personnel on duty. To find The Quays – take the second left after uShaka at Wodka, and go over the canal bridge as though going to Durban Underwater Club. Night Market will be on your right.
Where: The Quays – Browns Road, Point Development.
Thursday, April 7. 5pm-10pm
