It’s the last thing anyone really wants to talk about in all the excitement, chaos and glamour of the build-up to a wedding, but media and royal watchers are now speculating over whether Prince William will “protect” himself by having Kate Middleton sign a prenup.
According to the Guardian’s blog by Afua Hirsch, there’s little evidence of prenups being signed for royal weddings in the past, and Kate and William would be setting a precedent. It seems there are a number of very valid reasons why William would be a smart boy to do so, although none of them indicate any ill intent or character flaws on the part of Kate.
The couple have already shown they are moving the royal family firmly into the 21st Century in the careful wording of Kate’s wedding vows, where the word “obey” will pointedly be omitted, following Princess Diana’s lead.
Meanwhile, in a hilarious story by the NME music magazine – based in Britain – singer Morrissey (anyone remember him, that bleak, depressive wailer who penned his own hits and others with The Smiths) has labelled the royal family “benefit scroungers” ahead of the big wedding.
Morrissey, who won’t be watching William and Kate’s nuptials, said, “I don’t think the so-called royal family speak for England now and I don’t think England needs them. I don’t think they serve any purpose whatsoever.”
Morrissey made the comments during an interview on BBC 5live.
