Congratulations to Durban designer Leigh Schubert, whose designs have been chosen by the South African Olympic Team for the opening ceremony in London this July.
When the 112 South African athletes walk out and fly the flag at the opening ceremony, watched by TV audiences around the world, Schubert will be in the crowd to see them.
“I’m ecstatic,” Leigh told the Daily News. “This is an amazing thing for me, as countries around the world have had their opening ceremony outfits designed by the likes of Ralph Lauren for the USA and Stella McCartney for the UK. These are amazing international brands and for me to represent South Africa is incredible.”
Her prize for creating the winning design was an all-expenses paid trip to London to see the ceremony.
The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) unveiled Leigh’s bright, strong design in Joburg on Wednesday. The outfits will be wholly made in South Africa.
