One of the only sports fields in the Outer West is being neglected and left to deteriorate by the municipality, according to DA Ward Councillor Rick Crouch.
The building is being stripped, light poles are left to rust and the grounds are being torn up by individuals using it as a race track for quad bikes.
Since 2011, Councillor Crouch has been requesting that the eThekwini Parks and Gardens Department maintain and rehabilitate the sports field and to date nothing has been done.
“It is unacceptable that the municipality owns this sports field in the middle of Winston Park and they do absolutely nothing to maintain and rehabilitate it. I stop by weekly to check on the property and every week there is new damage,” said Crouch.
“The community have contacted Parks Department Deputy Head Christo Swart saying that they will raise the money to rehabilitate the sports field and they have definite proposals on what they want to do, but as usual they have not even received the courtesy of a reply. This is a municipal asset paid for by the ratepayers of eThekwini and it is being neglected to this extent,” added DA Ward Councillor Crouch.
