Families joined the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra and storyteller, Gcina Mhlophe, in celebrating Africa and its youth at Chris Saunders Park (next to Gateway Shopping Centre).
The morning festival, from 9am to 1pm, offered a host of entertainment for the whole family, while finishing early enough for soccer fans to get to their chosen venue ahead of the afternoon match at 4pm. Gerhard de Jager conducted the orchestra, while Gcina provided narration for the ever-popular “Peter and the Wolf”.
The KZN Youth Orchestra, conducted by Lyk Temmingh, as well as Iscathamiya group, the Mpumalanga Whitebirds and the Siwele Sonke Dance Company offered further entertainment during the morning.
There was also an opportunity to learn the Diski Dance, watch a fabulous demonstration of soccer tricks, be entertained by puppeteers, mime artists, balloon cculptors and stilt walkers, to name just a few.
