Well London is rainy and damp, and I am a bit chilly, but glad to be back in the heat from next week. The coming year looks like a wonderful one for Durbanites. The calendar of fantastic events will again include my favourites, Taste of Durban and Top Gear, and we should all be very excited to see the new tricks that Jeremy Clarkson and crew have in store for us, and the wondeful foods on offer at Taste.
Our culinary scene is ever more vibrant, Umhlanga is going from strength to strength with BarBaCoa, Mozambique, and a beautifully revamped terrace for long summer breakfasts. It really is my favourite start to a day, and whether I am in the South of France, on the Wolesey on Piccadilly or in South Africa, there is nowhere better to eat oysters and drink Champagne with the Indian Ocean lapping the beach and the pool below.
The sunbeds beckon and summer days lie ahead. Let’s all celebrate our enviroment and take advantage of the wonderful climate and beautiful scenery that greets us round every corner. Whenever I am in London, which I love, I remember that the colour of Europe is grey, a little like the opening scene of the Wizard of Oz, and it is only when I step off the plane back in Durban that I realise that we live every day in Technicolour in our beautiful corner of Natal. The greens are greener, and the blues are bluer. That is enough to make any year a Happy New Year, so I wish you all a wonderful 2013.
