October 12, 2011. Now in its 15th year, Durban’s famous adult panto team returns with a brand new take on Alice in Wonderland, presented in its highly popular and successful supper theatre format, to be staged at The Zone: Suncoast Casino from November 1 until December 31.

The team is back to give you a unique take on a classic fairytale in true “Once upon a time…” tradition… and that’s where the humble fairytale becomes an adult panto! Yes, boys and girls, after many years happily spent sullying the memory of all our best loved fairytales, this year’s festive adult pantomime takes theatregoers back in time to the well-loved Wonderland … as opposed to Alwaysland, where the global economic crisis, strike action, and the endless fight with Christmas shoppers in every mall in town, prevent our good citizens from having fun.
Adult panto is not “adult” in the X-rated sense of the word. Rather, it is naughty but nice festive season froth where everything has a double entendre – if you think it’s rude, blame your filthy mind, and not that of the cast!
This year’s cast features panto stalwart, Anthony Stonier, whose face and voice are synonymous with adult panto – this is his 15th year – and whose legs have officially been designated a World Heritage Site (they attract far more visitors than the St Lucia Estuary), plays the Queen of Hearts. Thomie Holtzhausen, who delighted you all as Tiger Lily last year, is White Rabbit and Caterpillar; the irrepressible Daisy Spencer, takes on no less than three roles – Dora Mouse, Tweedledum and Cheshire Cat. Sean de Klerk is back with again as Mad Hatter and Tweedledee, and also returning to the adult panto is Marc Kay as the Knave of Hearts. This year, panto virgin, Donnagh Roberts, plays Alice!
Alice in Wonderland is written and directed by Darren King, with musical direction by Anthony Stonier; design by Darren King and Bryan Hiles; costumes by Kevin Ellis and Gareth Greaves; lighting design by Tina le Roux.
