One such place is Dee’s Cafe at Spades Design Centre in Durban North. Dee’s toasted sandwiches are in a class on their own – try one with roasted butternut in ginger and thyme, smoked chicken, tomato relish, coriander pesto, garlic mayo and avocado. Dee also makes her own mayos, pestos and relishes which are available to buy.
For those with a sweet tooth, there’s a variety of home-baked cakes and muffins – a favourite being marmalade muffins with grilled orange slices. Dee also caters for parties, high teas, book clubs, business breakfasts and the like.
It’s a good spot for a quick bite, with lots of garden design ideas (Spade’s owner, Denzil Burmester is at hand for advice), an interesting decor shop, and even a somatologist tucked away if you feel like a massage or facial. They also have monthly casual dinner evenings.
