The December school holidays are upon us and parents will be looking desperately for something to keep their kids occupied. Why not enrol them in a tennis tournament at Rowena Sanders’ Pro Tennis Academy? Rowena has recently moved into the Umhlanga, La Lucia, Glenashley and Durban North area and is committed to instilling her passion for tennis in a new generation of players. The popular holiday tennis event, starting on 9 December at the La Lucia Mall Tennis Club, promises to be the perfect opportunity for kids to have fun, improve their game and to win a load of prizes. Various tournaments will be held to cater for players of all ages and competencies.
Rowena said: “The Tennis4u style of coaching is internationally recognised and the ‘play and stay’ system for younger players, allows children to play, rally and score from a much younger age. All players are grouped according to ability and/or ages – talented players are put into groups with older players to ensure that they are fully extended. Our emphasis is on developing technique. We want tennis to be fun, but we want to build confidence and skill at the same time, so that children are taught not just to hit a ball around, but master the game.”
So keep your children busy and develop their skills at the same time! Details of the clinic tournament are as follows:
9 – 10 Dec, 8am – 10.30am:
● Red Ball Tournament (Grades 1 – 3). Entry fee: R100. N.B. All players must have had some sort of formal coaching.
● Orange Ball Tournament (Grades 3 – 7). Entry fee: R100. For starter players who can serve, rally and score.
● Social Players Green Ball Tournament (Grades 4 – 8). Entry fee: R100. For starter players who can serve, rally and score.
9 – 10 Dec, 10.30am – 5pm:
● 14 and under Round Robin Tournament (age as at 1 Jan). Entry fee: R150. First prize R500 Gateway voucher. Players should have played in their school team/squad.
● 12 and under Round Robin Tournament (age as at 1 Jan). Entry fee: R150. First prize R500 Gateway voucher. Players should have played in their school team/squad.
11 December, 2pm-5pm (1 ½ hours per session):
• Coaching Clinic. For all players (Grade R to Grade 9). Entry fee R150.
