Glenwood New Year Street Festival

Darryl Hofmann from Yossis and the team from the Glenwood Community Forum are planning an elegant café-styled 2010 New Year’s Eve festival in the streets of Glenwood – with the restaurants in the Glenwood strip spilling out al fresco style on to the pavement and road for the evening.

Davenport / Helen Joseph Rd in front of the restaurants will be closed for New Year’s evening allowing tables and chairs to occupy the road, café style.

New Year’s Eve From 7pm until 2am.

Live bands will be playing early evening and DJs playing smooth sounds will take over later.  Restaurants will be operational, and there will be satellite bars along the strip.

** In response to a comment from one of our readers, the organisers of the event submitted the following statement: “Darryl Hofmann and the Glenwood restaurant precinct prides itself in fostering community values and developing a sense of community spirit, and to this end hosts occasional events and functions for the people of Glenwood to enjoy with their families along the Glenwood strip.

“The businesses work closely with the proactive Glenwood Community Forum in this vision. The New Year’s Event promises to be elegant, chilled, wholesome, relaxing and family-friendly. The couvert charge is because it is a non subsidised event and real costs need to be paid for: the jazz band, security and the event infrastructure such as chairs and tables to be in the street.

“If people have made a booking at one of the tables at the restaurants, they will be exempt from the couvert charge. We are hopeful that this event will provide a more mellow alternative to the boisterous street parties elsewhere and is geared for the Glenwood families to be able to celebrate the new year in a relaxed environment, close to home.”
