The Highbury 110 Birthday Ball marked for the school a remarkable 110-year milestone. In the world of today, there are not too many organisations that are still going strong after 110 years. Here are some reasons to celebrate:
• Jamais Arriere (Never Behind) … The school badge and motto that has stirred generations of boys and teachers to dream dreams, to reach for new heights, and to spread wings of uniqueness and potential.
• Celebrating Inspired Vision … the 21st Century Highbury still lives by a century-old vision as they embrace independence, commitment to quality education for all their children, and relevance through diversity and opportunity.
• Christian heritage … Highbury recognises God’s faithfulness to this school and to the generations of its people who have felt his blessings.
• Knowing Boys … If there’s one thing that remains just as it was 110 years ago, it’s the nature of a boy. Technology and the influences of a modern world might change some of the outer trappings, but when push comes to shove, it is at the heart of all that really matters that boys are as they have always been.
• Members of staff … A 20-year honour board lists the many men and women, teachers, admin staff, housekeepers, estate and kitchen staff, and others who have served Highbury for long stretches.
• Scholastic purpose and practice … Scholastic priority and an emphasis on academics and related quality delivery remains central to their raison d’etre.
• Sanctuary… The beautiful Chapel, the Memorial Hall, the Cricket Pavilion and the School Dining Hall, are uniquely iconic and so are worth celebrating.
