October 7, 2011. Police are frantically hunting for the man known as the “Facebook rapist”, who is wanted in connection with a number of assaults on young women, including in Umhlanga and at a bed and breakfast in Westville.
It’s believed the man, known sometimes as Thomas Bester, but who uses a number of aliases, is involved in up to 20 crimes in KZN. His modus operandi is to lure aspiring young models with promises of lucrative contracts – he often uses social networking site Facebook to make contact – to a venue of his choice, where he then assaults them.
National Police spokesman Col Vish Naidoo said that it was now suspected “Bester” could also be linked to crimes in Gauteng and the Western Cape. He told East Coast Radio Newswatch that one of the difficulties in catching the serial rapist was that he used a number of aliases, but Naidoo said he was confident that police investigators were nearing a breakthrough.
Perhaps it’s time to get serious about this serial violent offender and call on SA’s supersleuth “Piet Byl” Byleveld. Set the top cop on his trail and then maybe the arrogant man on the run will change his tune!
