The Elizabeth Gordon Gallery will be hosting ‘Images of Africa’, an exhibition by Sudanese artist Hussein Salim on Wednesday 24 July at 6pm.
Hussein’s new works for this exhibition are a combination of images reflecting all that is sacred to the continent of Africa. This is a move away from his Sudanese influences towards an acceptance of his new environment which, whilst being supportive and embracing, is filled with fragility and vulnerability.
His works, both on paper and on canvas employ an extravagant layering technique to create a dense impasto feel.
Hussein obtained an MA in Fine Arts at the University of Pietermaritzburg in 2007 and currently lives there with his family.
The exhibition runs until Saturday 3 August. Gallery hours are 8am – 4:30pm on weekdays and 9am – 12:30pm on Saturdays.
