Rape – a sensitive subject. A young woman growing up in South Africa has more chance of being raped than she has to learn to read and write. 40% of South African men have admitted to being raped or sexually assaulted. As a parent, have you been left in the dark? Most teenagers feel they cannot confide in their parents following a rape or sexual assault ordeal.
Rape survivor and founder of The Jes Foord Foundation, Jes Foord, is presenting a community information talk aimed at informing parents of the reality of rape in South Africa, and how parents can encourage their children to speak out after such a terrible experience.
Jes will be talking about her own personal experience and her journey over the last four years following her brutal rape by four men, whilst her father was forced to watch. She will be covering issues surrounding young adults and their need for unconditional love and support from immediate family and friends after rape.
In our experience, most young adults find it very hard to come forward and talk about their ordeals, and most of them have not told their parents as they are either too scared or ashamed. Jes will sharing some advice on how parents can deal with the shock and trauma related to rape and sexual assault.
