KZN’s very own Shaun Stander, who was the only one to represent our province in the Mr South Africa 2019 Finals, did not disappoint!
He would like to thank his community and country for standing behind him and for all the support and well wishes he received. The title was anyone’s to win. The qualities they looked for were integrity, professionalism and compassion. It had to do with what difference you can make in your community.
The judges’ criteria were to find someone who was a true gentleman, someone who speaks well and who presents themselves well. The finalists need to be able to sell themselves and be an entrepreneur as the winners would be representatives for our country.
Shaun emphasises the causes that are close to his heart where he can create greater awareness. He wants to fight against bullying (physical and cyber), racism and abuse. Shaun also wants to further his awareness on health and knowing your true worth in society. He is also going to work with schools to try to raise funds for the underprivileged and work on improving knowledge through schooling.
Shaun turned his modelling, dancing and fitness career into launching an agency in 2003 and starting countless new careers. After 10 months of competing, being narrowed down to the Top 20 finalists, winning his challenges and winning the country’s vote, he now adds to his list of 73 modelling titles another two! He was the only finalist to receive two titles – he was crowned Mr South Africa 2019 First Prince and Mr South Africa People’s Choice Winner. He will now be going on to represent our country on the international stage where he will show the world what a beautifully diverse country we have.
Now that the title has been won, what next? Shaun will be working with as many charities as he can. He will also be present as a judge at events, MC, producer and co-ordinator. He will also become a brand ambassador for companies, as well as become an influencer. He will be working on developing his brand even further, as well as other companies. He will also work with those wanting to assist him with his preparation for the international title.
“Allow me the opportunity to be a true ambassador for our country, to help create awareness for men’s and women’s health, as well as work together against gender-based violence. I would like to be a role-model to all men and women, all races and sexualities, to inspire unity and empowerment to work towards a greater future. Allow me to be the voice for those afraid to speak up for themselves and to help those individuals to find the confidence to believe they can do it too,” says Shaun.
