Jennifer Pillay, owner of Jen’s Hair Couture in Windermere has been in the hairdressing game for about 25 years – since she was 19!
“I used to work part-time in a hair salon when I was in school, for pocket money. I said to the owner that I wasn’t going to be a hairdresser when I finished matric, but I loved the adrenalin rush and meeting new people all the time, so then I thought I’d do this as a career rather than be an office girl,” remembers Jen. “I really enjoyed using my creativity! I was always a very ‘out the box’ girl and was always getting into trouble with my hairstyles at school. I would wear shaved short hair with long sideburns, not the conventional plaits that other Indian girls were wearing. I was eccentric then and I didn’t even know it!”
Jen is passionate about all things beauty! “I’m confident, passionate and I genuinely care about people and helping them to feel good about themselves. My motto is ‘if you love what you do, you never have to work a day in your life’ and I do love what I do!” Jen explains.
Jen offers EasyPro Hair Extensions (taped in), colour, cut, restyles, bridal hair and makeup (for all religions). Since moving premises to 194 Windermere Road, they now also offer eyelash extensions, gel and acrylic nails, manis, pedis, waxing, threading and massages. There is also a fashion boutique upstairs and they have the most divine pieces of clothing, including shoes and bags.
Ever since I met Jen, I knew I was in safe hands. I often have some crazy colour ideas and I’ve had most hair colours since I was old enough to start colouring my hair, but my absolute favourite has to be my current pink and blue highlights, which are actually created mainly using hair extensions with my own hair being coloured for my pink fringe.
When I first met Jen in 2016, my hair was a fairly short bob but she quickly transformed it into long, luscious locks, all using high-quality hair extensions. The extensions are meant to stay in for around 6/8 weeks at a time and can be reused time and time again. I look at them as an investment. You just need to get them tidied up, put back in and off you go again for another 6/8 weeks. Myself and Jen cannot believe just how long my hair has grown having the extensions in, so much so that I don’t need them anymore for length, I just have a few coloured ones in for a bit of fun and extra volume.
I would highly recommend Jen to anyone wanting to take the plunge. She is an extremely experienced and talented stylist who is also a true professional. She really will look after you and you won’t regret it, take it from me!
