May Madness!

By The Crest Magazine11/05/20122 Mins Read
Grant Hazell is going all out for Coca

Local businessman Grant Hazell (pictured near left) has been transformed into a cyber punk – all to raise awareness of COCA (Creating Opportunites 4 Community Advancement). Grant has committed for the month of May to “Give It All He’s Got” and so will willingly subject himself to a range of dares and challenges from the public.

On Sunday 13 May, Grant has been dared R3 000 to rollerskate in a pink speedo through UShaka, and he’ll be accompanied by a massive crowd, drawn together to promote the plight of the poor and needy in our community.

On top of this, he’s been dared to do a number of things this month, including a full body wax (R10 000 dare) where people can contribute to COCA and take a strip of hair off of Grant’s body! On Saturday, 12 May, he’s going to be chained in stocks at Essenwood Flea market for dares and to have rotten tomatoes thrown at him (last weekend he was at the Shongweni Farmers Market, Heritage Market and Hillcrest Corner).

Grant on a normal day

Grant has spoken at a number of schools, has organised a fundraising evening at the Barnyard with a showing of Moonshadows and is part of the rebranding celebrations at D&A Timbers in Pinetown.

Coca is a registered non-profit organisation, which is involved in a wide range of initiatives, which seek to uplift communities and bring hope to many.

As a means to both raise funds for, and to elevate awareness of, the various COCA initiatives, the month of May has been declared a month of May Madness. Under the slogan – Give It All You’ve Got – the staff and volunteer helpers of COCA will be undertaking a variety of high profile escapades specifically aimed at drawing attention to the plight of the communities, families and individuals which COCA seeks to benefit and assist.

How can you get involved?

There is an opportunity to get involved at every level – come up with a unique challenge of your own making, spread the word via word-of-mouth and the social media, and encourage business colleagues, friends and family to contribute to the cause.
