He’s fun, he’s fab and now he’s 3D! Sharks fans’ favourite mascot – Sharkie – has just turned 16 and, to celebrate, he’s been given a makeover! Fitter, stronger and even more dynamic, the new Sharkie was unveiled at Mr Price Kings Park on Friday.
Promoting a healthy lifestyle, fair play and good, clean fun, Sharkie has always been our superhero and now he looks it, with help from Sunrise Productions, the Cape Town-based company responsible for the award-winning Jungle Beat TV series.
“Sharkie is always positive about life and rugby,” says Mike Ablett, Marketing Manager for the Sharks. “He has a big heart and brings with him all the power and passion of The Sharks’ brand.”
He’ll be bringing his special touch to the Sharks’ franchise, keeping fans entertained and opponents on their toes.
One to 13-year-olds will be able to get their own piece of the Sharkie legend, with a new range of clothes available from the Shark Cage and from other national retailers later this year. Plus a range of other fun stuff to come later this season.
Meet the new Sharkie at 3D Nu Metro cinemas in Durban and, from 16 July, at all Sharks games played at Mr Price Kings Park.

Have you actually seen this mascot “in the flesh”? Honestly, people in the stands at the Bulls game were rolling with laughter when what looks like a jaded hunchback started what can best be described as “waddling” around the periphery of the pitch. It is truly the saddest “mascot” I’ve seen at pro sports. Sad but hilarious simultaneously!
Its better than running around in Pink rugby jersy’s
