National Road Pharmacy

By The Crest Magazine07/12/20153 Mins Read

Established in 1959, National Road Pharmacy is a trusted source of healthcare advice and treatment that has helped generations of Kloof families thrive.

The pharmacy’s original owner, Gerard Viger, now lives in the Cape but makes a point of visiting whenever he is in KZN. “Back then, the pharmacy was one of five commercial stores in a mostly residential area. Few homes even had a telephone! It was a dream come true when we opened the clinic and I’m happy to see the way it has grown under Lynda Bryant-Mutsaerts’ ownership. She has a progressive approach to pharmacy and some brilliant ideas.”

Lynda celebrates a decade at National Road in 2015 and is excited about what the future holds. “Our customers aren’t just customers – they are members of our community and caring for them is the heart of our business,” she says.

“We are dedicated to providing a professional and personal service, promoting a healthy lifestyle. To achieve this, we don’t believe in limiting ourselves to one healthcare solution or treatment plan. Rather, as professionals who have spent time researching all the options, we focus on wellness through the integration of various treatment options,.”

Lynda and her team are reluctant to shout about their achievements, but have an impressive collection of awards. Lynda won Nedbank Professional Business Woman of the Year and Pharmacist of the Year in 2009, while the pharmacy was named South Africa’s Best Community Pharmacy and Best Overall Pharmacy Facility in 2013. The latter is judged every three years by the SA Pharmacy Council based on the pharmacy’s ability to deliver exceptional patient care and its contribution to the community.

Fay Fenn has been a customer at National Road Pharmacy for 40 years. “The staff are remarkably helpful and so well trained,” she says. “They are happy and able to answer any questions, and really make you feel special.”

The pharmacy’s services include a clinic that provides all aspects of primary healthcare. The team also host wellness days at the pharmacy and at local companies. The Well Baby Clinic offers support and guidance to moms, and old age homes can take advantage of the pharmacy’s blister pack programme, with patient-specific packs simplifying drug management.

“For our patients’ convenience, they can call, sms or order their repeat prescriptions via our website. In addition to our long operating hours, we also offer a delivery service and 30-day accounts,” Lynda continues.

2016 is set to be a great year for the pharmacy, with exciting plans in the pipeline.

Opening hours: Monday to Friday 7.30-19.00; Saturday 8.00-15.00; Sunday 10.00-15.00
