President of the East Coast

Loryn Holmes gets excited about her new wheels

The East Coast has its very first ‘President’. Loryn Holmes, a Westville High old girl, was announced as the ultimate winner live on the Breakfast Stack on East Coast Radio this morning.

She and the two other candidates – Abonga Nkwelo and Ashley Raspal – canvassed for vote intensely since they were announced as the final three candidates on 1 August. Loryn erupted into cheers and tears at news that she had won. In her acceptance speech she said, “I can honestly say the last 10 days I have done nothing short of have fun in the Funsunzi province, it has just been a completely wild ride!”

Loryn walks away with more than just the title ‘President of the East Coast’. She gets all the perks that come along with it, including a Chevrolet Cruz Hatchback, tickets to all East Coast Radio events and to many other major events in the province, season tickets to the Sharks and Dolphins, numerous weekends away and dinners with friends. Of the prizes she says, “Oh my goodness have I got a busy year ahead but I’m so excited.”

Each candidate brought their own flair to their campaigns which wrapped up when voting closed at midnight on Saturday. Loryn pulled out all the stops and even decided to do skydiving on Friday last week as part of her campaign. She says, “I’m petrified of heights but figured as a potential future President of the East Coast I would need to push the limits and embrace the adventurous side of KZN!”

The 33-year-old says she’s a born and bred Durbanite, avid Sharks supporter whose number one passion is people. Loryn is a go-getter who loves socialising, which is just as well since as part of her role as ‘President’ she will share some of their views on-air and also write a blog on East Coast Radio’s website updating locals about what is hot and happening. The station would like to congratulate her and wish her well for his year as ‘President of the East Coast’.

“The response from listeners was overwhelming and we’d like to thank everyone who voted for their favourite candidate!” East Coast Radio.
