Solomzi Tyibilika, or Solly as he was known, was shot dead in a tavern in Cape Town on Sunday, 13 November. He was the first black player to score a Test try for the Springboks, during his Test debut against Scotland in 2004.
The talented loose forward went on to represent his country in eight Test matches, scoring three tries. After making 16 Super Rugby appearances for the Sharks, Solly moved to the Golden Lions in Johannesburg, but struggled to find his form. He then returned to the Eastern Cape, playing for Border from 2008 to 2010.
