This Westville old boy has made waves overseas, where he recently won $100 000 (R792 000) for his performance at the Fina Swimming World Cup in Tokyo.
He achieved consistently in the seven-leg Fina series, finishing with a total of 23 gold, 10 silver and two bronze medals. This medal feat won him an extra $46 000.
The 19-year-old swimmer was named ‘most promising athlete of the year’ and won ‘best performance of the year’ at the Telkom Swimming SA Annual Aquatic Awards in Joburg on Saturday night.
Chad also holds the record for the Commonwealth Games 200m butterfly.
