St Andrew’s School for Girls

By Mums Mail Magazine29/01/20183 Mins Read

St Andrew’s School for Girls is a well-established, independent all girls’ school situated in Senderwood, Bedfordview, founded in 1902 and partly housed in the original building designed by Sir Herbert Baker. The process of developing young girls into balanced, accomplished and confident women is central to their Skilled for Life motto, which forms the core of the St Andrew’s ethos.

At St Andrew’s School for Girls, they regard each and every one of their Andreans (as the girls are known at St. Andrew’s) as a true original, with her own special set of talents and attributes. As educators, they are honoured to be part of this transformation: from the Preschool where both boys and girls grow with confidence and enquiring minds, to the Junior and Senior Schools where the girls flourish and develop each year, acquiring skills for life and the ability to contribute to a global future.

St Andrews’s School for Girls offers a balanced education with wealth of opportunities for all their Andreans to embrace. The academic programme is challenging and imaginative, designed to foster intellectual curiosity and a lifelong love of learning. St Andrew’s School for Girls is a top sporting school with a number of provincial and national representatives in various sports. They believe that healthy minds and bodies are achieved through offering swimming, diving, rowing, hockey, netball, athletics, tennis, squash, equestrian and golf. Their facilities are state-of-the-art, allowing for all participants to train in the best environment imaginable. The cultural offering at St Andrew’s School for Girls is brilliant for those interested in music, art and drama. Their girls have excelled in national performances in the arts and eisteddfods.

Community service is a core component of life at St Andrew’s School for Girls. The girls are expected to participate in various community service opportunities as well as participate in the President’s Award Youth Development programme. The school social development programme, uBambiswano, was established in 1990 and is an important part of the community at St Andrew’s.

The stunning, modern boarding house caters for 80 girls. Weekly and full-time boarding options are available to girls from grade 8 to 12. The school welcomes girls from all over South Africa and abroad into their happy, comfortable, and friendly environment.

Skilled for Life, the school motto, means lifelong skills for living in the exciting world of the 21st century. They aim to produce young women who will make a difference in their communities and who will embrace all opportunities and challenges that they may face in our ever changing environment.
