Russian twin sisters Elena and Olesya Nurgalieva were robbed of their belongings during the Comrades Marathon yesterday, when their team’s van was broken into.
The van was parked at the second water stage at the bottom of Fields Hill in Pinetown.
The twins went on to win gold medals for 1st and 2nd place in the ladies’ race.
Items of clothing, running gear and wallets were stolen from the van, along with hotel room keys, enabling the thief to steal more items from the runners’ hotel rooms.
Police are investigating the thefts.

These two sisters come to our country every year to run the Comrades – and this is the terrible behaviour they have to withstand?! COMRADES, people! Does no one know the meaning of this?! It is not just for the runners that participate but for our whole country to be proud of!
We have such a beautiful country yet criminals ruin it for the rest of us who ARE proudly South African.
